Justin, Beyoncé, Pirates Are Kids' Choice

Justin Timberlake was the host with the most Saturday night. Most green goo all over him, that is.

In addition to being named Favorite Male Singer, the Grammy-winning pop star also shared the spotlight with gallons upon gallons of slime at the 20th Annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, which never fails to distinguish itself as the messiest kudos-fest of the year.

After the signature orange blimp had ferried a tuxedoed Timberlake toward the stage to kick off the ceremony at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, he announced, "Tonight, we're breaking the slime barrier," and launched into a show tune that boasted the premature line, "You'll never get a drop of slime on old J.T."

Then, a fountain of the green stuff burbled up from the platform, soaking him and attendees Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, who had joined him onstage for the opening song-and-dance number. Mandy Moore also got a shout-out from old J.T. during his song and subsequently was doused by several buckets of slime while sitting in her seat.

"This wasn't what we rehearsed!" Timberlake yelled, feigning dismay as a fountain of the green stuff burbled up from the platform. But that's what he gets for his tune: "I say it all the time; I'm just too famous for slime."

According to the emcee, more than 40 million youngsters (and probably a few excited adults) texted their picks or voted online for their favorite movie, music, TV and sports stars, an all-time record number of votes for the event.

The first award of the night went to 13-year-old Dakota Fanning, who beat out elder stateswomen Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry and Keira Knightley for Favorite Female Movie Star. Last year, the actress both talked to the animals in Charlotte's Web and made the controversial indie drama Hounddog, playing a troubled girl whose character is sexually assaulted.

"I consider all of you my friends and thank you from the bottom of my heart!" Fanning told the crowd, which included loads of screaming fans who looked to be no older than the precocious youngster they were cheering. "This is my favorite blimp that I'll ever have," she added regarding the miniature orange blimp that constitutes a Kids' Choice Award.

To hammer the tweenage-audience point home, Timberlake, accepting his trophy for Favorite Male Singer, said, "I feel like a grandpa up here, but this is awesome!"

Adam Sandler, who latest dramatic turn in Reign Over Me might be a little much for some of the younger kiddies this year, took home the blimp for Favorite Male Movie Star.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest followed up its Peoples' Choice Award win with another nod for Favorite Movie, again proving that, well, critics mean nothing as far as the masses are concerned.

"I want to thank you for seeing the movies, for seeing the DVDs. And for not making fun of me for talking like this every speech I do," the actor said in a voice utilized by his characters in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy and at least several other films
For their small-screen prowess, Drake Bell of Nick's very own Drake & Josh was named Favorite TV actor for the second year in a row, while American Idol was deemed Favorite TV Show. "I want to thank Sanjaya for his hair!" Randy Jackson said upon accepting the award with Paula Abdul.

Ben Stiller received the Wannabe Award, life achievement done Nickelodeon-style, which goes to the celebrity who the kids most want to be like. His blimp was silver.

"When I was a kid I wanted to be a lot of people, a lot of things," the Meet the Fockers star said. "I wanted to be an astronaut, an archaeologist, I wanted to be Spider Man, Batman, I wanted to be Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody)—which is weird, because he wasn't even born yet.

"But the most important person you should want to be is yourself, because there's only one you."

Other recipients of the plump statuettes included Happy Feet, for Favorite Animated Movie (the voice of Norma Jean, Nicole Kidman, was on hand to accept); the Black Eyed Peas for Favorite Music Group (toting a cardboard cutout of an absent Fergie); and Nick's own Spongebob Squarepants for Favorite Cartoon.

And Beyonce wasn't sent packing off to the left. Instead, the kids chose her as Favorite Female Singer and named "Irreplaceable" their Favorite Song, giving her a leading two wins for the night.

Answering the question as to which celeb du jour would be this year's recipient of the traditional donning of the goo, a be-goggled Vince Vaughn turned up to help detonate the "atomic geyser of slime." After pretending that it was just a coincidence that Vaughn was hanging around backstage, wearing protective eyewear, the Wedding Crashers star and Timberlake (a veritable sucker for slime by the end of the night) ended the festivities with a bang as slimy fallout rained all over the better part of the 12,000-strong audience.

These are the awards given out at the ceremony and the people who recieved them.
